About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio musicians with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.
In 1981 the third album by Toto Turn Back was a flop, but they rebound with their fourth release Isolation that features two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour makes them a household name around the world.
After a short hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is a departure from the ballads of previous albums, and features some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
In the course of recording the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and are financially in trouble. They decide to change their name and make a new album using the new producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is an easier frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and begin an extensive tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993. It also features a cover of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.
